From what I’ve seen in Germany many villages are linked by bike trails anyway. Usually the bike trails are more direct than the major highways anyway
Many are, many are not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. You’re not allowed on highways anyway with the bike, but the normal country roads are usually 100 kph or at least 80 kph.
