  • Well I didn’t know you were Dash. I feel honored that you answered to my post.

I enjoy reading your articles on the Bryant Review and I’m sorry if I thought that Gardiner wrote the article about RetroDeck when in fact it was you.

Thanks for taking note of the fact that the method you were using was creating duplicates and I hope crossposting solves the issue (although half of the duplicates shown on my feed were from Lazorne and not from you). If not, it ain’t such a big deal, just a small annoyance.

At least everyone now knows that the Bryant Review and RetroDeck are great and deserve to be known for it!

  • I use Voyager and I feel like it’s easy enough to use and has a great UI.

Sometimes I just use Lemmy with Firefox and that’s when I feel a tad lost. It’s still useable if you put the effort, but it’s clearly not as intuitive as Voyager.

So maybe the Lemmy browser UI should be improved. Also it would be good to have an official Lemmy app for mobile phones as people can get lost with choices.

The problem with the Fediverse is always the onboarding and understanding the basics. Peertube or Lemmy are great but really intimidating for non geeky people.

Also the lack of some content can be problematic. On Lemmy I can find almost everything I want even if some comminities are almost dead, but on Peertube I can only satisfy 1 out of my 4 point of interest (Basketball, Cars and game reviews being the missing one and Linux being the fullfiled one).

  • Yeah I guess I should do this in order to learn more about window managers and hotkeys.

Still I know that I need a DE for sure for now. Even on a DE, I find the explanations about how to use them kind of lacking.

For instance, Gnome doesn’t tell you that you can spread 7 programs on 7 workspaces if I’m not mistaken.

At the beginning, I was really using a kind of Windows workflow instead of discovering the full power of Gnome…

This applies to the other DEs I use too…

  • I feel really lost with all these users talking about window managers, hotkeys and specific terms. I feel like a rookie😅

If someone has a video comparing a lot of different workflows, I’d love to watch it. I feel like my workflow could still be improved.

Currently I use Gnome on my Surface Go (hooked to a big screen) daily driver, Cosmic on my old MacBook Pro and KDE on my Steam Deck (hooked to the same big screen).

I love Gnome and how I’ve configured (with an extension) every program to open on a specific workspace at startup while just using gestures or keyboard to move between workspaces.

I’ve kind of reproduced this with KDE and Cosmic, but it’s not as perfect.

KDE doesn’t follow the window rules I’m setting and Cosmic doesn’t let you automatically start programs on a specific workspace.
