We’ve come a long way in computing, but the computational power difference between a human brain and a computer is significant. LLMs were just a smart way to have computers learn pattern recognition. While important, it isn’t anything close to artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is what the term AI usually means.
I totally agree. I hinted towards what you’ve said in my comment. It still doesn’t change the fact that at some point Windows was chosen and everything was built. The implies another choice could still be made. It’s just not going to happen with an established company most likely. It would be nice to see newer companies that don’t have the same inertia switch to Linux at least and start the transition. So much is stuck in a “business culture” that treats Windows as the only option though, but again this wasn’t always true and can be changed again if enough companies started to transition.
Incorrect. That’s the only thing people notice. The benefit is not having one central authority in control. If Bluesky decides to, for some reason, not allow third-party apps or something, there’s no way to prevent it. If Lemmy.world, for example, does this then they don’t have the authority to enforce it.
The benefit of federation is in removing hierarchy that can harm the platform without the consent of its users. It’s invisible because it’s only preventing something. This does not mean it isn’t beneficial though.
I don’t disagree that it would be tough, but they had to start from nothing when choosing Windows originally. It all had to be learned and built up at some point. It can again, and hopefully on an open platform that won’t fuck them over in the future. (I know, there’s no chance, but there should be.)
Everyone always complains that whatever they want isn’t on Linux. Well, it wasn’t on Windows at some point either. Make a user-base for it on Linux or make it yourself. Someone did it in the past. It can be done again.
To be fair, it isn’t aware of what source it’s using. It’s not “referencing” anything in particular. It’s just trained to replicate a bunch of data. It doesn’t understand it or anything. It doesn’t know what came from one source and what came from another, and how accurate any of those are, or what the context of it is. It just generates something that resembles it’s data based on the input.
I doubt it’ll make Europe at large side with China, but Russia is going to be in massive debt to China. I’m curious how much power they’ve obtained there already during this war.
